POETRY: Fixx – Pride Of Man

TOPIC: Pride Of Man!!!

Author: Israel Inalegwu

Watching the stars bleach and carve their skin got me wondering, do I fit in?

Hide my scars behind clothes and shine like I’m gold for all eyes to see.
Will I make them stare at how glorious I am as I walk past them?
If we are not in charge, why do we fight so hard? I guess that’s just the pride of men.

I guess our pride is our only strength.
I guess our pride is our only friend.
For only it knows the truth, Only it holds the proof.

So when we are called to trial,
I guess our pride is our own defense.
Our commander in chief! Commanding the weak.
Commanding those that stand to gaze and graze, commanding the sheep.
So when the wolfs attack, with its prying eyes!
The commander in chief commands the scene.

What a Terrifying scene. Terrifying knowing The hero they want to see is not me… knowing that I’ve successfully made the world fall in love NOT with a Hero, but with the IDEA OF ONE.
The pride of Man.

Now putting them in the very shoes I was in.
A life of hunger and desire for a life that was never Me.

“Spotlight will be alright if that’s all life has in its sleeves.”

Now, Watching the stars bleach and carve their skin got me wondering, do I fit in?
Hide my scars behind clothes I did ride with that boat but tonight I choose to sink.
As I drown myself, I realise my strength in his hands so at last I rest.
If we are not in charge, why do we fight so hard? I guess that’s just the pride of men.
